The ETL Operations Developer will be responsible for the development, maintenance and support of the data integration requirements demanded by the operational commitments of Group Data Solutions (GDS).

Key responsibilities include and are not limited to:

  • Working in close partnership with the business analysis and data governance teams in Central Services IT and, working closely with other members within the Technical Delivery Team

  • Compiling technical specifications from functional specifications provided by the business analysts

  • The development of operational and project related requirements using Informatica and other related technology. This development is closely coupled with thorough unit and regression testing to complement testing conducted by the business analyst

This includes producing working code to meet the extraction, transformation and loading of data from various source systems into the Operational Data Store and relevant target systems as defined in the solution design. Includes error, exception handling, data cleansing, impact analysis

  • Troubleshooting, escalating, testing and resolving problems encountered in the Production environment

  • Modelling the business and operational processes pertaining to the operations team and creating detailed documentation of the models

  • Provides input to the Data Architecture Policies and Standards set out by Group Data Solutions

  • Quality control all ETL implementation and documentation

  • Release scheduling and change control

  • Ensure all data delivery operational SLA’s are adhered to.

    Appropriate IT qualification – Technical diploma or degree

    A qualification in banking or financial markets & instruments will be an advantage.


    Technical knowledge and experience:

    • Informatica development (minimum of three years)
    • Informatica system administration
    • Development in other ETL tools e.g. DataStage
    • Data integration, ETL/Mapping, ETL migrations
    • Writing and analysing complex SQL queries
    • Troubleshooting performance bottlenecks in code
    • UNIX scripting
    • XML & MQ Messaging
    • Ability to contribute to the specification process to ensure a quality end product
    • Strong technical documentation skill
    • Strong data analysis
    • Data modelling
    • Working knowledge of ODS and Data Warehousing concepts



    • Working knowledge of Risk, Financial and Capital calculation engines
    • Exposure to a banking environment
    • Exposure to working within the framework of accepted Systems Development Life Cycle methodologies
    • Software configuration management experience (such as installation, Version Control, Change Control, etc.)
    • Experience in application architecture
    • Experience in database design
    • Ability to provide input into technical architecture decisions
    • Ability to identify shortcoming and improve on current processes and standards
