Qualifications and experience:

  • Matric (relevant degree or diploma preferred)
  • Administration certification on Microsoft SQL 2008 database systems
  • 5+ years experience in managing a Microsoft SQL 2000/2005/2008 database environment
  • Net visual basic and C# development skills
  • SSIS/BIDS/ Reporting services experience
  • Script automation (batch and vbs)
  • Administrative experience on MySQL
  • Server administration experience advantageous

JOB INCUMBENTS KEY ACTIVITIES

  • 24/7 support of production database services to ensure the highest standards of availability, resilience , integrity, security and performance required by our business systems
  • 70% SQL administration with 30% system support work
  • Design, development and administration of MS SQL databases
  • Performance monitoring, reporting and tuning of MS SQL databases
  • Management and maintenance of back-ups and recovery procedures
  • Installation and maintenance of database server, replication and client environments
  • Reviewing and tuning SQL code
  • Designing database maintenance packages and procedures
  • Security and access control
  • Provision of support and assistance to development team in the design, development , testing, tuning and implementation of database applications
  • Creation and maintenance of SQL queries and routines
  • Provisioning of (database) development and testing environments
  • Writing ad-hoc queries based on schema knowledge
  • Implementing appropriate solutions in order to achieve 100% uptime
  • Providing fellow Microsoft database administrators and support representatives with technical support and guidance
  • Conduct regular internal/external audits of systems
  • Ensure systems are secure and all relevant patches and upgrades are carried out
  • Manage calls in terms of escalated call times
  • Communicate internal and external call status
  • Conduct research on technology, new technology, optimization and alternative technology
  • Adhere to Company and EMID change management processes
    • Ensuring the adherence to Company and EMID processes and procedures
    • Escalation of any problems with data or delays in projects to relevant management where necessary
    • Responding to requests from the business for support
    • Assist the business in compiling proposals for new systems and services
    • Understanding the information needs, the business objectives and the market sectors that CompanyAfrica and EMID operates in
    • Ensuring suitable communication / updates are being provided to internal and external clients on the status of ongoing project work
    • Creation and fulfillment of project task allocated to the database administrator
